What qualifies
- Identical product: same brand, model number, size and finish. Matte vs gloss counts as different.
- In stock at both Home Depot and the competitor.
- The competitor must actually sell and ship to your location; regional-only stores outside your area don’t count.
- Online competitors: Lowe’s, Menards, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target — sold and fulfilled by the retailer, not a marketplace seller.
- Online price matches include the item price plus shipping cost; only the purchaser can request.
What’s excluded
- Seasonal, discontinued, clearance, distressed or going-out-of-business merchandise
- Custom or special-order products
- Volume or wholesale pricing; membership warehouse pricing (Costco, Sam’s Club)
- Third-party, marketplace, auction and discount sites (eBay, Wayfair)
- Open-box, reconditioned, refurbished or previously discounted items
- Labor and installation pricing; sales tax
- Rebates, free offers, bundles and one-time promotions such as Black Friday and holiday events
- Misprints; financing or credit-term offers
How to request a match
In store: confirm the item is identical, then show the competitor’s ad, printout or web page to the cashier at checkout. The associate may contact the competitor to verify.
homedepot.com: have the Home Depot SKU or Internet #, the competitor’s name and the competitor’s product identifier, then contact Customer Solutions by Live Chat or phone (1-800-430-3376 per Home Depot).
Online vs store prices
Home Depot states homedepot.com does not match store prices and stores do not match homedepot.com prices. If your local store is higher than the website, consider buying online for store pickup — but treat that as a separate purchase, not a match.
