Marshalls return policy explained

Marshalls’ holiday window is already live for 2026: purchases made October 4 through December 24 can come back through January 25, 2027 for store buys, or February 4, 2027 for online orders. Outside that range, the standard clock is 30 days with a receipt in store, or 40 days from the order date for marshalls.com. Used, worn or unsellable items are refused, and Marshalls will not take returns at TJ Maxx (or the reverse).

2026 holiday return window

Marshalls posts a Holiday Extended Return Policy on both its in-store and online return pages:

• Store purchases made Oct 4–Dec 24, 2026: returnable through Jan 25, 2027.
• Online purchases made Oct 4–Dec 24, 2026: returnable through Feb 4, 2027.
• Purchases beginning Dec 26, 2026 fall back on the normal 30-day / 40-day rules. Gift returns with a receipt get store credit under the holiday note.

Standard in-store window (30 days)

With a valid register receipt, return unused, sellable merchandise within 30 days of purchase for a refund. Marshalls says merchandise credit is issued for returns over 30 days, returns with a gift receipt, and returns without a receipt. Swimwear and intimate apparel need tickets properly attached. Merchandise that is used, worn or unsellable is not accepted.

Non-receipted returns require a valid government-issued photo ID, name, address and signature. Receipted returns are subject to Marshalls’ refund verification systems.

Online orders (40 days)

Online purchases can be returned within 40 days of the order date, unless the shipping confirmation notes a different rule. You can:

• Return free in a Marshalls store with your shipping confirmation email or the barcode / order number from Order Details (signature required).
• Return by mail via Marshalls’ online returns portal. A $11.99 return shipping and handling fee is deducted per return package. Consolidate when you can — each package gets its own fee.

Mail returns that arrive at the warehouse more than 40 days after the order date get a digital merchandise credit. Refunds by mail without a receipt are not allowed.

Sister stores: Marshalls ≠ TJ Maxx

Marshalls is clear: items bought at a Marshalls store can only be returned to a Marshalls store, and marshalls.com orders only to a Marshalls store or the Marshalls online warehouse. Refunds, PayPal and high-value limits

• In-window returns with a valid receipt generally go back to the original tender; gift-card purchases typically refund as merchandise credit.
• PayPal in store: physical merchandise credit. PayPal by mail: refund to PayPal minus the $11.99 fee.
• Mail refunds usually post within 10–14 business days after Marshalls receives the return; in-store refunds are immediate (bank posting can still take a few days).
• In-store return exclusions called out on the online policy include items over $1,000, handbags/footwear over $499.99, long occasion gowns, luggage sets, and opened/tampered beauty. Gift cards are not returnable. Online orders: no exchanges (inventory changes constantly).

Photograph the receipt the day you buy — thermal paper fades. Save order and shipping emails in one folder, and write the return-by date on the bag or box. If you paid with a card that offers return protection, keep the statement line too.
