Dyson warranty claim: how it works

Every Dyson sold in the U.S. by Dyson or an authorized seller has a limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Dyson says the warranty covers, at no cost, all parts and labor needed to get your machine working during the period. The big variables are length (2 or 5 years), proof of purchase, and where you bought it. Dyson is a popular Black Friday buy — save the receipt the day it arrives.

How long is a Dyson warranty?

  • 2-year limited warranty: cordless vacuums, fans and heaters, purifiers and humidifiers, hair dryers, hair stylers, hair straighteners, audio.
  • 5-year limited warranty: corded vacuums, hand dryers, lights.
  • Dyson Renewed (refurbished): 1 year for hair dryers, stylers and straighteners; 6 months for cordless vacuums, fans/heaters, purifiers/humidifiers and audio.

Coverage starts from the date of purchase or delivery, whichever is later. Without proof of purchase or delivery, Dyson starts the warranty 90 days after the date of manufacture — which can cost you months.

What Dyson covers and doesn’t

Covered: original defects in materials and workmanship under normal domestic use per the manual. Time your machine spends in warranty repair is added to the warranty; replacing a part doesn’t restart it.

Not covered (from Dyson’s list): accidental damage, misuse or neglect; commercial or rental use; non-Dyson parts damage; blockages and clearing them; washing filters; normal wear parts such as the clear bin, filter, brush bar and power cord; use on rubble, ash, plaster, drywall or liquids; and battery run-time decline due to age or use. Cosmetic modifications that affect refurbishment void the warranty.

Authorized sellers matter

Dyson’s warranty applies only to machines bought from Dyson or a Dyson authorized seller in the United States, and Dyson may reject claims for machines from unauthorized sellers, including unauthorized websites. On Amazon, Dyson names only “Amazon.com,” “Allied Hand Dryers,” and “Berl’s Commercial Supply” as authorized sellers. If Dyson determines a machine is counterfeit, it won’t service it — it may return it, or retain it and give you a letter to support a refund claim with the seller or your card issuer.

How to make a Dyson warranty claim

  1. Check the manual’s troubleshooting and clear blockages first — blockage clearing isn’t warranty work.
  2. Gather your model name/number, serial number, date and place of purchase/delivery, and the receipt or delivery note.
  3. Contact the Dyson Helpline (1-866-693-9766 per Dyson’s terms) or use your My Dyson account.
  4. Dyson or its authorized agents will repair or replace the defective part or machine. Replaced parts become Dyson’s property.

Registering isn’t required for coverage, but a My Dyson account shows registered machines and how much warranty is left.

Third-party repairs

Dyson says using an independent repair shop or third-party parts won’t void the warranty — but damage caused by that repair or those parts isn’t covered. While you’re in warranty, Dyson’s own free repair is usually the better deal.

When the warranty runs out

Check whether your credit card adds a year — see credit card extended warranty — and whether you bought a store plan such as Geek Squad Protection. Inside the store return window, a return may be faster than a claim: Dyson items at some retailers have their own rules (for example, Macy’s excludes items sold by Dyson from its holiday extension).
